The other day, my daughter asked me to play a game called MASH, in which you choose two desirable and undesirable marriage partners, places to live, jobs, cars, and number of kids. Have you ever played that game? The person recording your answers draws a spiral while you close your eyes and then stops when you say, "Stop." They then use the number of lines in the spiral to determine your future. For my two ideal jobs, I said "college professor" and "writer," to which my daughter replied, "But that's what you already are. Pick two dream jobs." Well, those are my dream jobs. I'm living my dream. (According to the game, I will marry Brad Pitt, drive a mustang convertible, have three kids, and live in an apartment in Colorado, lol!)

 

Knowing I wanted to become a writer, I was determined to study all the greats first. I earned my Ph.D. in English in the mid-nineties, specializing in twentieth-century British and American narrative strategies. Ever since, I have taught writing and literature--full time for twenty years and part-time in more recent years--at a university in San Antonio, my hometown, where I live with my husband (not Brad Pitt but perfect for me) of nearly thirty years, two of our three adult children, and three rescue dogs.

I'm a mood reader who reads and writes in multiple genres. I've written over forty novels--paranormal mysteries, thrillers, and young adult fantasy based on Greek mythology and made the USA Today bestsellers list in 2017. Currently, my most popular series is The Mystery House Series, which follows three friends in their fifties who renovate or visit haunted properties and try to solve the mystery of what's tethering the ghosts. It's been described as Nancy Drew meets The Golden Girls. My second most popular is The Underworld Saga, about Thanatos (Death) needing a holiday. It's been described as Meet Joe Black meets Percy Jackson.

In every genre I write, I want to give my readers a thrilling adventure that takes them through the full gamut of emotions. I strive to blur the line between reality and fantasy, truth and delusion, and draw from my personal philosophy that a reader must be lured and abducted into complete captivity in order to enjoy the reading experience.
